Electric Car Care Tips
CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR ELECTRIC GOLF CAR OR NEV
To properly care for your vehicle we recommend the following:

CHARGE CAR PROPERLY
  • Car should be charged after every 18 holes of golf or the equivalent (approx. 7 miles)
  • Check charger ammeter (the meter on the charger itself) to be sure charger has turned on
  • Charger will be hot to the touch during charging and may run for up to 18 hours

FILL BATTERIES PROPERLY
  • Fill to 1/4" below bottom of split ring (1 1/2" below top). Water should be added after charging. Filling before charging can cause the battery electrolyte to bubble over during charging. If plates are exposed, however, add enough water to cover the plates by 1/8" before charging
  • As a guide, water should be checked every other month first year, every month second year, every two weeks thereafter, Batteries use more water as they get older
  • Distilled or treated water is best for filling batteries. Best if water contains less than 200 T.D.S (total dissolved solids…parts per million)

KEEP BATTERIES CLEAN
  • Batteries should be kept free of dirt and corrosion to prevent excessive self discharge
  • Battery acid can stain driveway. Wash batteries in an area where a stain won't matter
  • Placing an automotive drip tray beneath the golf car will help prevent stains in the garage

KEEP TIRES @ CORRECT PRESSURE
  • Correct tire pressure allows the car to roll easier = longer battery life and easier steering
  • DOT street rated tires max. pressure = 35 psi. Turf tires max. pressure = 22 psi
    (DOT = Department of Transportation)

Additional hints:
  • Place car in neutral when parking. Neutral stops current flow - even more than keyswitch
  • Have car serviced at Pohle NV Center annually, or more frequently if car is used often
  • Clean windshield with a soft towel or chamois and water only. If necessary, use a mild soap. Plexiglass can scratch very easily. DON'T USE WINDEX
  • LED state of charge indicator (car dash) moves back to full position only at FULL CHARGE. It does not "step its way up" during the charging process
  • Some used cars are equipped with a Hi-Speed switch which should be used like an overdrive. Start off with switch off, then switch on as you get going. DO NOT USE ON GOLF COURSE

Long Term Storage Procedure:
  • Fully charge batteries. Fill water to proper level after charge. DO NOT OVERFILL
  • Clean and dry batteries. Then spray protectant on all terminals to reduce corrosion
  • Every 45 days, the batteries should be charged a minimum of 8 hours (12 hrs if batteries are new) (Batteries slowly discharge in storage, particularly in hot weather)
  • Place Forward / Reverse lever in neutral position. Turn key off. If E-Z-GO PDS model - place the switch on the controller under the seat in the "tow" position
  • Leave parking brake off. Use blocks to prevent the car from rolling
  • Be sure to fully charge the batteries again, prior to putting it back in service
